On this episode of the PokerUpdate.com Weekly Burn & Turn, it’s Hanukkah, and we have a Hanukkah Miracle for you, featuring ‘The Magician’ Antonio Esfandiari. Also, what do we want for poker Christmas? And, great places to take your poker vacation. Right after this.
Welcome back everybody to another exciting episode of the PokerUpdate.com Weekly Burn & Turn for the week of December 6th, 2015. I’m Robbie Strazynski.
And I’m Shimi Weiss.
Happy to be back again for another wonderful episode. Are you ready?
Damn ready. This is an exciting one.
Very, very, very exciting episode. Why? We had a very special visitor. ‘The Magician’ Antonio Esfandiari came to Tel Aviv this last week, and we had the good fortune to meet him.
Some of us…
It was unbelievable! We got to be with him, we took pictures with him, we had brunch with him – it was the best time we ever had.
Some of us did.
It was a lot of fun. Antonio, you are the man. I’ll tell you how this meeting came about. How did we even find out he was in Tel Aviv? He was tweeting and put a picture showing that he was in Jerusalem and visiting Israel with his father, and I was like wait a minute, we have to find a way to meet him. So, Shira, the editor of PokerUpdate who also appeared in previous Burn & Turn Episodes, and I made a video and why don’t you go ahead and watch to see what happened.
Robbie: Welcome to Israel Antonio. We would really love to meet you, and we’re going to use our ‘One Time’
Robbie & Shira: ONE TIME!
Robbie: One Time. This is Shira, we’re from PokerUpdate, and we’d love to see you and Happy Birthday tomorrow. In case it doesn’t happen, we’ll see you in Vegas someday.
And the ‘One Time’ worked.
Well for some people it did. I’ve got to tell you, from my perspective, I woke up at the crack of noon and Robbie sends me a message saying ‘Get off your butt. Antonio is here and he invited us out for lunch.’ So I threw everything out to the side – including my daughter, by the way, so shoutout to Avigdor for dropping everything and taking my daughter so I could go and see Antonio – and I just missed it!
Well the crack of noon is a regular time when poker players wake up.
Where you playing poker the night before?
No, I was playing Dreidel. Antonio, I’ve got to tell you, I was really excited to come and see you. Next time you’re here, I would love to come and meet you because I had a present for you.
This is a Dreidel. We were going to play some high stakes dreidel. We were going to have an awesome time. I knew he wasn’t going to have enough money so I actually brought some cash to spot him.
You brought Hanukkah Gelt!
I brought Hanukkah Gelt. So this is what you missed out on man. The next time you are in town, let us know and we will go for some high stakes dreidel, and let me tell you, I play a mean dreidel.
Well, for those who don’t know a lot about Dreidel, we’ll just give you the rundown here. We’ve got the Nun which means miracle, we’ve got Gimel for a big miracle, Hay for here, and Pel stands for poker which is pay. Meeting up with Antonio was a Hanukkah miracle.
Absolutely. I’m sorry I missed it.
It was certainly an amazing Hanukkah miracle. Antonio, thank you so much! It was certainly awesome that you responded to it, and not only that, but we also gave him a special present. It was the day before his birthday so Shira and I gave him a special present. Take a look.
You gave him a shirt? I can’t believe you gave him a shirt!
Isn’t this awesome? He’s got the PokerUpdate shirt!
I’ve been asking for another spare shirt for ages. We don’t wash them because we have to wear them all the time. No, enjoy the shirt Antonio.
Yeah, enjoy the shirt. When you win $18 Million in one tournament we’ll give you another shirt, Shimi.
Alright, goals for the New Year!
Anyway, it was a very special opportunity to meet you sir. The ‘One Time’ does work so for all of you out there, use your ‘One Time’ wisely and maybe you might be able to meet superstars like The Magician. So again, thank you for the special opportunity. It was great to meet you, and your father as well – a really cool guy.
Yeah, and if we’re already talking about one time, what is it that you guys want for the holidays? We got our wish. Well, some of us got to meet Antonio.
Well we’re already talking about Hanukkah, where you don’t really ask for anything, you just receive, but on Christmas you can as for stuff. Right?
What do you want for Christmas, Shimi?
Poker related right?
Yes, Poker Christmas.
I want a bankroll. That would be very helpful. Give me a bankroll. ANY bankroll. Just something to work with.
Well that would fit well with what I want for Christmas.
What do you want for Christmas?
I want to play Shimi heads up.
I do not want to play Robbie heads up.
Well how am I supposed to get the bankroll?
You know what? One day we’ll do that. We’ll have a Burn & Turn Special Heads Up – Robbie vs Shimi. You guys will all see me shpoint the river against Robbie.
Shpoint – That’s a very Christmassy word.
Basically that means to hit that one outer on the river.
Anyway, what we’re talking about is a great article written by Jennifer Newell. She does celebrate Christmas, actually. She was making a request for Poker Christmas. Actually, a really good article, so let’s see what she wanted. She wanted to end misogyny in poker.
I love that one. That was amazing. Well said, well put.
She wanted to spread diversity and multiculturalism. Really great things. She wants everyone to dress better for Christmas. She’s actually asking Poker Santa. She’s saying that more women should be in charge of poker media. We actually referenced it already – Shira is the editor of PokerUpdate.com – so we’ve got at leas one.
Shira is paving the way for women in poker media.
So she wants all these things. I’m just surprised that Jennifer didn’t ask for unicorns also. I mean, why not? I’m just kidding. Those are very important things and it would be very wonderful if we were able to get a couple of those things for the next year.
I actually love what she wrote there. It’s very true. When you see the poker table you see such a diverse group.
That’s the beauty of it.
It’s incredible. Such an amazing thing to see.
So that’s something I would like to see. You know where I would like to see such a thing at the poker table?
On a poker vacation!
On a poker vacation.
Let’s talk about where we would like to take our poker vacation.
Even just a regular vacation. Any vacation! I would like any vacation.
Where would you take a poker vacation?
Well, I’ve never actually been to the World Series in Las Vegas, believe it or not. All this poker talk, and I’ve never been there. So that is the first place I would go for a poker vacation. Whether it’s for a side event, or the main event, even just being there and getting to see all the pros. That would be very cool. Jennifer actually went to the World Series and she railed Pierre Neuville. One of her wishes was actually to see him make the November Nine again. Where would you want to take a poker vacation, Shimi?
Honestly, I like the cruises. I’ve never been on a cruise.
You’ve never been on a cruise?
I’ve never been on a cruise. You know what? Why don’t we go together? We’ll do a whole Burn & Turn first hand account of a poker cruise.
I can see that. Well, we mentioned Card Player Cruises, that’s owned by Linda Johnson who is in the Poker Hall of Fame and Jan Fisher in the Women’s Poker Hall of Fame – shoutout to you. That’s definitely a great way to take a poker cruise. How about this, if we get 100,000 likes then maybe we’ll hook something up.
They would totally send us then. Guys, guys, guys, 100,000 times, send Robbie & Shimi on a poker cruise. 100,000 likes, spread the word.
Okay, that’s one like right now. We’re on our way.
There you go, 99,999 likes to go.
Speaking of liking. If you are watching this PokerUpdate Burn & Turn on Facebook, we encourage you to like it and share it with your friends. And I’m Robbie Strazynski. Happy Holidays everybody.
