Welcome everybody to a very, very special episode of the PokerUpdate.com Weekly Burn & Turn. I’m Robbie Strazynski.
And I’m Shimi Weiss. It’s not just special because of what we’re wearing, although it is pretty cool.
It is a little special. We do have something special though. We’re not going to be talking about too many articles this week, but actually a really cool and special competition that we’re putting together at PokerUpdate.com, for you. We’re taping it a little bit in advance, but assuming that everything goes well, this video will be released on October 1st which is the same day that we’re launching the Most Memorable TV Poker Hand Ever Competition.
That sounds really cool. Alright, Robbie, tell us a little bit about this. What are we looking at for this competition?
Okay, so you’re familiar with something like the March Madness NCAA College Basketball thing, right?
Okay, so we’re going to have a whole bunch of videos, or clips of videos, of hands from a few different categories. 32 videos is what we’re going to start out with, and we’re going to pit them against each other and we’re going to ask you guys, the visitors to PokerUpdate.com, which one you think is more memorable. Basically, just like a reality competition, we’re gonna allow you to vote. It’s not like we’re going to decide, or our experts are going to decide. We did compile the list of the original 32 videos, and we’re going to go ahead and allow you to be the ones to decide, round after round.
So the voters are actually going to be the reason one hand progresses after the other one?
Exactly. It’s going to be up to you. If you think that Hand A was much more memorable than Hand B, you’re going to be the one to decide if it goes on to the next round.
Okay, that sounds pretty cool. How did you come up with these specific hands? Where did they come from?
The brightest minds in poker got together…
…sat down at a table…
…and then they dispersed, and then sent us emails of which ones they thought are going to be the best for the list of most memorable hands. We did divide it into a few categories. We didn’t seed them unlike the college basketball, where you have the 1 seed vs the 16 seed. We just did randomly within the 4 categories. There are 8 funny videos, 8 shocking videos, 8 impressive videos, and 8 exciting videos, and among them you guys are going to choose which one is more exciting. We did narrow it down. We put a lot of time and effort into narrowing it down to the hands we thought were most exciting, and now it’s up to you. So now it’s like a shortlist.
So now the fans get to choose. You guys get to take a look at the videos and decide which one actually merits being the winning hand.
The thing is, it’s interactive, you can click on any match-up and watch the two videos right next to each other, and then go ahead and click the button to vote. You can even share the hand with your friends. You know what? There’s only a limited amount of things we can do to hype it up without actually seeing what we mean. We’re going to cut to commercials so you guys can see exactly what we mean, and we guarantee you’re going to be excited after you see this commercial. Take a look.

That was awesome! That was really cool!
Wow! Mind…Blown! BEST commercial I’ve EVER … EVER seen, for anything poker related. Wow!
This looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
I hope so, and I hope you guys think so too.
I want to break down these categories. When you’re talking about a funny category, obviously we’re not talking about Phil Hellmuth walking in with a clown suit.
Although, Phil, that was very funny. Good job.
Some of the funny videos include reactions at the end of a hand. I think one of them is when someone thought he had won the hand and was like “Yeah! I won the hand!” but he didn’t actually win the hand. That was funny.
So we’re not talking about someone slipping on a banana peel?
No! Poker has been televised for 40 years. “Over 40 years,” as it said on the commercial. Poker has been televised for a while and there’s a lot of funny moments, there’s a lot of impressive moments, shocking moments, and you know, which one is the most memorable ever is what this competition is really about. We’re going to have a 5 week long competition. We’re going to have one week to vote on each one. So be sure to tell all your friends about your most favorite hand. Especially if you are one of the poker players involved in one of the hands.
You better get online and make sure that people hear about it.
Tweet out to your followers. Let everyone on Facebook know that you were involved in one of the hands and that you want to be voted to the next round each week. We’re going to be starting on October 1st, hopefully when today’s video is going to be published. It’s going to go for a week and we’re going to have all this voting, round after round. We’re going to have some great recaps by our PokerUpdate writers, some analysis and a lot of great, interesting stuff. Very interactive.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on the hands as well. We want to know why you voted for a specific hand, and why you think that specific one deserved to move forward.
Exactly, and in general we want to know what you think of the competition.
Do you like Robbie’s suit?
Or Shimi’s tie?
So, I hope you like it. I think that you’re really going to enjoy this competition over the next few weeks. Again, the most televised poker hand ever. Go to PokerUpdate.com. Go ahead and vote, and again, let us know what you think. We’re on Twitter, @PokerUpdate, and on Facebook look for the PokerUpdate.com Facebook Page, and of course, email@example.com. That brings to the end this very special episode of the Weekly Burn & Turn. Thanks for tuning in, and go ahead and vote.
