Welcome everyone to the Monthly Roundup for August, 2015; I’m Robbie Strazynski.

Here’s a look at some of the top poker updates that we’ve recently published

There’s arguably no more exciting name in the news these days than Ronda Rousey. The UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion sure knows how to handle headlocks and grab headlines. Beyond her ice-cold stare, which would surely terrify opponents at the poker tables, there are a number of other good reasons why it would be great to see “Rowdy Rousey” associated with the game and sponsored by a top poker company. Be sure to check out the great article, penned by our own James Guill.

You ever feel like it’s been a decade or so since you’ve seen celebrities playing poker on TV? You’re right! Right on cue, Poker Central has brought us the Super High Roller Celebrity Shootout! Featuring top poker stars like Vanessa Selbst, Daniel Negreanu, and Doyle Brunson, as well as must-see Hollywood talent like Don Cheadle, Hank Azaria, and Norm MacDonald, this show definitely brought some fun back to poker TV. Moving on, it’s widely known that a number of American Presidents loved to play poker, including Truman, Eisenhower, and even current President Barack Obama. But a “Presidential poker tournament?” That sounds pretty interesting! Jennifer Newell has started writing up a great series of articles, pitting the numerous 2016 Presidential candidates against each other in a most creative, poker-themed way. Have a look at her first piece to see which candidates are the aces and which ones ought to know when to fold’em.

Last, but not least, there’s no greater honor in poker than being enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Each year, only a select couple of players get the nod. That means, there’s plenty of competition to see who will be inducted. With that said, there are a number of highly qualified individuals who surely deserve consideration, including the 9 people listed in our article. Be sure to read it!

Now it’s time to name the Baller of the Month. As you know, each month we select the poker player whose lifestyle and adventures give him or her the highest, most baller profile.

This month’s baller is none other than the Poker Brat, Phil Hellmuth. The 14-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner scored plenty of points in August. Let’s tally them up to see just how baller Phil Hellmuth was.

Ballers fly in style. Witness Hellmuth ascending the steps to a private jet, where he enjoyed some first-rate bourbon while heading home to the Bay Area from Lake Tahoe. 10 points, sir.

Ballers also surround themselves with great people. Hellmuth was joined for a barbecue/poker game by fellow World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Huck Seed, as well as poker power couple Liv Boeree and Igor Kurganov. 5 points per poker buddy.

It sure seems like everyone in poker is on Twitch these days, but when Phil Hellmuth jumps on the Twitch bandwagon, people start paying attention. While Hellmuth’s poker savvy at Texas Hold’em is unquestioned, he’s been live streaming himself playing a more unique poker game – Pineapple. 5 more points.

Aside from being a world class poker player, Hellmuth has also gained notoriety as a top poker event host. This month he hosted the BIG 4 final tables broadcast at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Have a look. 12-hour day? 12 points for Mr. Hellmuth.

…and let’s just tack on another 14 points for good luck – one for every bracelet won by the all-time WSOP leader.

With a grand total of 56 baller points, Phil Hellmuth outperformed everyone else in the poker world in August. We’ll see which star poker player will live it up next month and be our next baller of the month.
