WSOP.com NV launched an iOS version of their software in Nevada, making it the first time an online poker operator in Silver State made a move into the mobile world. For many users, this is a great thing as many, who are on the go, can still enjoy playing poker…just now on their mobile device.
Putting the App Through its Paces
In the past, I’ve tested out some poker site mobile apps with a critical eye and quite simply wasn’t overly impressed. There seemed to be too many bugs or game play was frustrating. With that said, I went in with an open mind when testing out WSOP.com’s new mobile app for iOS (on my iPhone 5s).
Site security is extremely important to me. In the past, prior to the legalization of online poker in Nevada, I used to play on some poker sites where I knew it was hit or miss as to whether or not I would actually get my money. So, if I’m going to recommend a mobile app (or that of any poker site for that matter), it’s going to be from a site that I trust.
The next thing I look for is design creativity, but this isn’t too a big deal. As you probably know, some poker sites just aren’t easy on the eyes while others are well designed. The WSOP.com mobile app is designed similar to the poker site’s computer software. Is that enough to please this picky poker player? You’ll have to read on to find out!
Since I play poker for a living, I require games that are profitable. The games on the WSOP.com Nevada mobile app are the same as the computer software. Lastly, I prefer mobile poker apps that are convenient and easy to navigate and play even for those that aren’t technologically advanced.
Let’s take a look at what I discovered from my experience playing the WSOP mobile app for iOS.
Mobile App Security and Design: Only Minor Issues (B+)
WSOP clearly spent time ensuring app security. Every time I exited the app for more than a few seconds, I had to log back in even if I was in the middle of a game.
Let’s say your phone is lost or stolen. I’d hate for some donkey who found your phone to be able to log into your poker app and blow all your money. You can protect your account simply by leaving the “Remember me” box un-checked. I feel safe playing on WSOP.com’s mobile app.
The design element of any app is important as it is a large portion of the entire user experience. If the interface’s design is hard to use, many people will abandon it. I’m certainly no design expert, as I have limited artistic abilities. With that said, I do think the app could be a bit more aesthetically pleasing. I’ve seen worse in terms of appearance, but I’ve also seen better. You be the judge:
Poker Game Selection: Not Bad for a One-State Poker Site (B)
Since WSOP.com Nevada is only available to those located within the great Silver State, I’m satisfied with the quantity and quality of the games. WSOP.com offers cash games, SNGs, and MTTs. There are plenty of low- and micro-stakes cash games available. SNGs are hit or miss. If WSOP.com is running a SNG promotion at the time you sign up, there will be plenty of SNGs running. If not, there won’t. From my experience, WSOP.com seems to be best for MTTs and daily freerolls.
Year-round, you can expect some profitable tournaments – both freerolls and low buy-ins. If you click here and sign up for WSOP.com in Nevada you can also get entry into a $100 first deposit freeroll. After earning enough points, you’ll receive a ticket to a monthly $500 freeroll. WSOP.com Nevada also runs daily MTTs with $500+ guarantees starting at just $3 buy-ins and up.
Note that at the time of this writing, Texas Hold’em is the only variant of poker available to play on the WSOP.com Nevada mobile app.
Mobile App Intuitiveness and Ease of Use: So Easy a Baby Could Do It (A)
Using the WSOP.com Nevada mobile app is simple. You first download the app – in my case, from Apple’s App Store. The app then walks you through the sign-up process if you don’t already have a WSOP.com account. Anyone, whether they are an online poker newbie or experienced user, will have no trouble setting up a player’s account.
Once you’re signed up, by clicking on the $ button at the bottom of the screen, you will be able to make your first deposit using one of the following options:
- Bank transfer
- Online banking transfer
- PayNearMe (at your local 7-Eleven)
- Making a cash deposit at a Caesars’-owned property in Nevada
Most deposits are credited within minutes, if not instantly. Once your deposit has been credited, you can jump right into the action. Start by selecting a type of game, as seen below. It’s that easy. I really like how the app walks me through the entire process from sign-up to joining a game. I’m not technically challenged, but I know people that are, and even they can use the WSOP mobile app.
Overall: It’s Not Perfect But Definitely Recommended (A-)
I like to get the bad out of the way first, so the things I would like to see WSOP.com improve upon with their Nevada mobile app include the aesthetics and giving players the ability to multi-table. Other than that, I have no real issues with this app.
My experience was pleasant. I felt safe and secure. Being that WSOP.com is backed by Caesars Entertainment, I know my money is safe. And even a technologically-challenged person could figure out how to play poker on the WSOP.com mobile app. Highly recommended.
I’ll see you at the online poker tables!
