Viktor Blom Wins SCOOP The Main Event For $1 million This year´s highly anticipated PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) Main Event saw several top pros run deep for a shot at more than $1 million for first place. Eventually, final table was formed by Noah “Exclusive” Boeken, Mike “munchenHB” Telker, Ravi “govshark2” Raghavan, and Sergio “zcedrick” Aido but the real center of attention was Victor “Isildur1” Blom, who was seeking his third SCOOP title in addition to the prize money. Blom went on to win the tournament in come-from-behind fashion against Boeken in heads-up play.
This year’s SCOOP at PokerStars is already one of the most historic tournament poker series; with over 580 runners only in main event, plunking down their $10k buy-in; PokerStars accumulated their largest prize pool ever in 2013. An incredible $75,585,305.05 has been won in the 132 tournaments of the 2013 SCOOP in the past two weeks, making it the richest poker tournament series in history.
580 players signed up for the $10,300 buy-in SCOOP Main Event (Event #43-H No-Limit Hold’em) which resulted in a massive $5,800,000 prize pool, almost $3 million more than the guarantee.
When it came down to the heads-up play between Victor “Isildur1” Blom and Noah “Exclusive” Boeken, Noah had a 3-to-1 advantage over Blom and there was no talk whatsoever about making a deal. Blom, slowly but steadily, added more than 1 million to his stack in the first 30 minutes of play and he didn´t even have to put his entire stack at risk. Over the next few hands Blom won another 1 million chips and narrowed down Boeken’s lead further.
In the final hand, Boeken min-raised his button to 100,000 and Blom called to see a flop of K J 9 with two spades. Blom checked and Boeken bet 130,000 and Blom check-raised to 342k and Boeken shoved his remaining stack. Blom insta-called tabled Q T clubs for the nuts, and Boeken needed a miracle to survive with his K 5 off suit. The 9 of clubs turn gave him some help, but the ace on the river meant that Blom took down the pot (and the tournament) with a flopped straight. This was already Blom’s third SCOOP title.
Noah “Exclusive” Boeken, who earned over $800,000 after finishing as the runner-up. Boeken is well known in Holland for the television shows, Veronica Poker and Poker Kings NL which he hosts with Marcel Lüske and until Feb 2012 he was a PokerStars Team Pro.
Twenty three year old Blom isn´t a stranger to million dollar days. He is known for his unbelievable heads up nosebleed cash matches on the old Full Tilt, where he took part in all ten of the largest cash game pots in online poker history. According to High StakesDB he is up over $700k in online cash games this year.
Back in the day, Isildur1 was a mysterious character to most since he used to conceal his identity. Now luckily everyone knows who he is and we are all glad to have the chance to get to know this amazing poker player.
