It was anticipated for a number of weeks, but on Thursday dealt its 100 billionth hand in what was a massive milestone for the company and online poker.
The historic hand occurred on a $0.02/$0.05 No Limit Hold’em 6-Max table; where pots are usually a few cents, occasionally even a couple of dollars. Players at this table, however, won a lot more than they anticipated as a result of the giveaways given by the company in celebration of the anticipated hand.
A total of $65,460 was distributed to five of the players at the table, with those players receiving between $12,460 and $13,440. The winner of the hand, a Greek player with the handle ‘microulis69’, received a whopping $103,800. Mircoulis69 won the hand after flopping a pair of Jacks.
Team PokerStars pro Henrique Pinho was there to see the hand. After it finished Pinho wrote “congrats Microulis69! never fold J5s again!” Belgian PokerStars pro Charlotte Van Brabander, who goes by the handle ‘Sjlot’, also saw the hand go down, writing “oh god my heart!”, which helped illustrate the suspense created by the milestone.
The six players at the table were not the only ones to get cashed up from the 100 billionth hand. 9,471 players who were playing on PokerStars while the milestone hand was being dealt and played received a total of $830,790.34.
The promotion based on the hand will continue for the rest of the month, with more money being offered to PokerStars players during that time. Tomorrow the poker site will attempt a $300,000 world record tournament, which will have a $1 buy-in with a $300,000 guaranteed prize pool with at least $25,000 for first place in the event.
On June 30, the Ultimate Freeroll event will be held on the site, which will have a $1 million prize pool, including $50,000 to the winner of that tournament.
