Nominations for the third annual British Poker Awards have been released for eight separate categories of excellence in poker and players can now vote for their favorites online at www.thebritishpokerawards.com.
Among the categories being honored include Best Cash Player, Best Tournament Player and Best Online Player. Sam Trickett took home the Best Cash Player award last year and his prowess in high-stakes action may see him repeat this year over the likes of Ben Grundy and Alexander Millar. Trickett may also get the nod for Best Tournament Player based on his $10 million second place finish in the Big One For One Drop over nominees that include Chris Moorman and J.P. Kelly.
The remaining categories that the poker-playing public can vote on include Best UK Tournament, Best Poker Forum, Best Poker League, Best Poker Blogger/Social Media and Poker Personality of the Year. The best UK tourney award is a new category this year and among the six nominees are EPT London, UKIPT Nottingham and the APAT Championships.
There are two awards–Player of the Year and International Player of the Year–that are decided by a panel of judges made up of the event’s sponsors. Last year, the judges selected Jake Cody for Player of the Year, while Jason Mercier was recognized as International Player of the Year. This year, Trickett is a heavy favorite for Player of the Year honors for his outstanding 2012 on the felt.
The British Poker Awards ceremony will be held Sept. 17 aboard the HMS President. The ship is docked on the Embankment in the City of London. For more information and to vote for your choices, visit www.thebritishpokerawards.com.
