The Global Poker Index has come under some heat in the past as having no real value to players and just being an empty attempt to bring poker into the mainstream. That is going to change quickly, though, as the GPI is partnering with “Living it, Loving it” to provide a leaderboard and cash prizes to those participating in the Prague Poker Festival in mid-December, according to Pokerfuse. There will be €10k up for grabs to the top three finishers in the specially designed leaderboard.
The upcoming festival is a really unique time for those in the poker world because it will mark a time when many of the major sites and tours have events centered in one city that isn’t the World Series of Poker. Out of the desire to capitalize on this unique opportunity the GPI and Living it, Loving it decided to strike a partnership that will feature the GPI creating a special way to track and award players for their play during the festival and Living it, Loving it providing a cash prize to the top 3 players throughout the festival.
The festival will feature the WPT Main Event, the €10k Main Event, as well as sponsored events by Everest Poker and 888 Poker from December 5-22. All of the events from this period will be eligible for points that players can collect to gain a share of the €10k prize pool for the leaderboard. Prague has been host to large tournaments in the past with the WPT and EPT both experiencing great success; this is sure to only help.
If the Global Poker Index continue to add value to players in ways such as this then perhaps players will begin to see some value in the system. Right now, however, many players don’t put much stock into where they stand on the GPI rankings. Living it, Loving it also gains a lot from this partnership as their company and brand are going to be exposed to a large new base of potential customers.
