Federated Sports and Gaming to Air Epic Poker League on CBS

Federated Sports and Gaming, a company devoted to poker-related businesses, is expected to announce a deal to televise its “Epic Poker League” show on CBS as well as the velocity network, a network being started by Discovery Communications.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Epic is paying CBS to air the show, an agreement called a “time buy” in which the show buys air-time like an infomercial.

The time-buy model has become common in the poker world; Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars paid networks to broadcast shows that featured their brands.

Jeffrey Pollack, the head of Federated, said he hopes the television branding will increase revenue in other segments of his company, including an amateur poker league and a social network the company is starting.
