The European Poker Tour (EPT) is planning on staging the largest poker festival ever seen in Europe to commemorate the hosting of its 100th event in Barcelona in August.
Set to run from August 16-27 at the Casino Barcelona, the festivities mark the start of EPT’s 11th season. A partnership with the Estrellas Poker Tour from August 16-21 is part of the 12-day run.
Since its 2004 inception, the EPT has traveled to 16 countries and welcomed more than 180,000 players. Of those 180,000 participants, 39 have gone home as millionaires by winning chunks of the more than €535 million in prize money paid out..
“The EPT was born in Barcelona so it’s very fitting to celebrate EPT’s 100th event in true style and with unforgettable poker,” EPT President Edgar Stuchly told Pokerupdate. “EPT Barcelona is one of the most popular tour stops and attracts players from all over the world for the fantastic mix of beaches, iconic architecture, party atmosphere and world class poker.”
The 2013 EPT-Barcelona broke records for players entered and tour organizers anticipate more of the same in 2014. An additional 20 tables will be used in order to accommodate the expected larger field.
