David Diaz won the $1,500 Triple-Chance No-Limit Hold’em Championship, collecting $352,808 in cash and a WSOP gold bracelet.
Diaz grew up poor in Honduras, and at age four he was diagnosed with cancer. With inadequate facilities and his family strapped for cash, Diaz’s outlook was grim.
However, Diaz was able to obtain treatment at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN—a facility created by philanthropist Danny Thomas.
Diaz beat his cancer, settled with his family in New Jersey, and now, at age 26, has won a WSOP bracelet.
