The Asian Poker Tour and Resorts World Manila have announced that the Manila Millions will begin on April 20th before the start of APT Philippines Main Event. The Manila Millions will have a buy-in of HKD$1 million and will be the largest poker tournament to ever be held in Asia. Macau High Stakes regulars Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey have declared their intention to participate in this historic tournament and other high profile players are expected to follow suit. Tournament and Casino officials hope that the public exposure of high profile players in a historic tournament will increase the power of marketing and the exposure of poker in Asia.
“A buy-in of this magnitude will put the Philippines on the world poker map and the APT is excited to once again be working with Resorts World Manila to make it all possible”, stated APT CEO Jeff Mann in a press release.
Tournament and Casino officials hope that the Manila Millions will further help the development of Resorts World Manila as a tournament leader in the Asian Poker Community. With the closing of the Macau Poker Stars room and the indefinite postponement of the Macau Millions, the Resorts World Manila and APT Philippines has been attempting to capitalize on the gap left by a major loss. Recently, casino executives announced the formation of a Genting Poker League, which was named after its own exclusive high roller club. They hope that the Manila Millions and the Genting Poker League will help develop the growing poker scene in the Philippines and in the greater Asian community.
The Manila Millions is expected to attract 25 to 30 players and will include a mix of high profile players and select few businessmen. The APT Manila will be held from April 19th through the 25th and will include a USD$2700 Main Event buy-in.
