In America, when the men get together for a poker night, they call it “boys’ night” or “guys’ night.” In the UK, it’s lads’ night. And when it is a special occasion – such as when PokerStars teams up with Prostate Cancer UK to raise money for charity – it’s Lads Night In.

PokerStars is known for its regular attention to a variety of charities, and the partnership with Prostate Cancer UK is now an annual one. The second year puts Lads Night In on Friday, October 21, and everyone can participate for just £5, all of which goes to an organization dedicated to focusing on making significant improvements to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of prostate cancer, as well as the support of those who are victimized by the disease.

Gather the Lads and Lasses for a Poker Night

It’s really as simple as that.

Sign up on this registration page by donating £5, and the organizers of Lads Night In will send a package of cards and accessories for your poker night. At the same time, send texts to the lads to reserve October 21 for your big poker night for a great cause. You can even connect everyone on Facebook and create an invitation to your event there.

Find the place and time, ask everyone to bring a dish (or place an order for delivery), and get the table set up for a competitive poker game. Once the night arrives, you can set up the “JustGiving” page online for the lads to donate (per your Lads Night In package from Prostate Cancer UK) or simply ask everyone there to text POKER to 70004, which automatically commits them to a £10 donation to the cause. There are many ways to use the evening’s festivities to raise money and help prevent prostate cancer, a disease that will take one man’s life every single hour throughout the year of 2016. It is also a great time to remind the lads to make sure to get the proper medical checks to ensure they are not included in that number in the years to come.

A Cause Close to the PokerStars Heart

Prostate cancer is not something that most men like to discuss over beers and poker, but with the ever-increasing rate of diagnosis and death from the disease, it is vital that awareness is raised. That is why PokerStars got involved last year and partnered with Prostate Cancer UK.

That inaugural event prompted more than 5,400 people to participate and raise £114,000 for the cause. As part of the 2015 festivities, Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody even hosted his own event in London that included a person who won a trip to sit in on that game. Numerous other Team Pros got in on the action as well, gathering at the Hippodrome to raise money.

This year, as more funds are needed to meet the demands of a higher number of men being diagnosed with prostate cancer than last year, it would be quite an accomplishment to top the 2015 numbers.

With that in mind, call up some friends, plan that poker night, and donate early to get your Lads Night In package, courtesy of PokerStars, for the big evening. Poker players are known around the world for their generosity, so get involved to show that you are a part of that amazing community.
