If you happen to be the significant other or loved one of an online poker player, you’ve likely noticed that it’s been nigh impossible to get their attention as of late. You can expect that to continue through the weekend.
The world’s top two online poker sites are in the midst of hosting massive tournament series’, much to the delight of players who have an abundance of tournament choices at their fingertips. PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) began on May 8 and will run through the 23rd, while the fifth edition of the 888poker Super XL Series got underway on May 14 and will conclude on Sunday, May 22.
Billed as “the biggest and richest tournament festival of the year,” PokerStars SCOOP lives up to the hype by offering over $40,000,000 in guaranteed prize money over 165 events. Four dozen events have yet to be played, with the biggest action scheduled for this Sunday.
Three Main Events are on tap for Sunday, May 22 that promise a combined $7 million in prize money. Barring a final table deal, PokerStars will make another millionaire in the SCOOP High Main Event, as first place prize money is a guaranteed $1,000,000.
The total prize pool for the High Main Event is $4 million, which will undoubtedly bring smiles to the faces of players who manage to finish in the money. The $10,000 buy-in will keep players with smaller bankrolls on the rail, unless those budget-minded players happen to win a seat to the event via a multitude of satellites that are running now.
Players put off by the $10K entry fee or who fail to win a seat to the High Main Event can always opt for the Low Main Event featuring a $100 buy-in and guaranteed prize money of $1 million with $100,000 to the winner. Or, bankroll permitting, perhaps the Medium Main Event for a $1,000 entry fee with at least $2 million in payouts guaranteed.
Whatever your budget, SCOOP has tournaments remaining that fit.
Super XL Series
888poker’s Super XL Series began last Saturday, promising 40 events and $3,000,000 in guaranteed prize money. As with SCOOP, the festival’s biggest prize pool payout day has yet to be played. That would be this Sunday, May 22.
On tap for the last day of the Super XL Series are a handful of Main Events with plenty of zeros behind “1s” and “5s” in the prize pool guarantees. For instance, the $15,000 Micro Main Event, $15,000 Super Turbo Main Event, $150,000 Mini Main Event, and the $1,000,000 Main Event.
The buy-ins range from $5 to $1,050, which follows the theme at SCOOP by hosting tournaments for players at all stake levels. Also similar are plenty of satellites available for players to win seats on the cheap. Complaints from those who want to play in the Super XL Series but can’t afford it are non-existent!
Take your choice from now through the upcoming weekend on whether to hit the SCOOP tables or the Super XL Series. Or better yet, play at both online poker festivals!
