Las Vegas Metropolitan Police shot and killed a suspected casino robber over the weekend at the Rio All Suites Hotel & Casino, according to a YouTube video (below) uploaded by the Las Vegas PD’s official account.
Las Vegas Metro PD Captain Matt McCarthy stated Sunday that the department’s Repeat Offenders division was conducting surveillance on an individual who had been a suspect in several recent casino robberies in the area in which he allegedly confronted casino cashier personnel with a firearm and in some cases claimed to be carrying explosives.
LVMPD officials were “tailing” the individual early Sunday morning when he entered the Rio. “When they confronted the subject (described only as a heavily-armed white male), he did not comply with their commands, so the detectives tased the subject. The subject struggled, put his hands towards his waist, and the officers shot the subject,” McCarthy said.
Police found a firearm near the area of the alleged robber’s waistband after the fact. McCarthy advised viewers that the Las Vegas police department will not release the name of the individual because that responsibility will ultimately lie with the coroner’s office.
