The 2015 Spring Championships of Online Poker (SCOOP) was another record breaker for the world’s largest online poker room.

PokerStars put on one hell of a show: 138 tournaments, $76,530,051.72 in prize money (smashing the $40m guarantee), and 569,089 entrants breaking records galore.

Team PokerStars Pro, Jason Mercier, who had to get on a jet plane to play in this event because of the ridiculous situation facing US players, was the star picking up the 2015 SCOOP Player of the Year title after topping the Overall Leaderboard.

Mercier cashed 22-times, made five final tables, and won three titles. The American picks up $10,000 in cash and a 2016 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) package for his troubles. Russian high stakes player Vladimir ‘vovtroy’ Troyanovskiy finished second with a season high 31 cashes.

Series Featured Strong, Diverse Player Pool with Large Prize Pools

Troyanovskiy led an influx of Russian players. They produced the most number of entrants (59,386), and the most cashes (7,841). Canada produced the most champions (21), and the UK had a strong presence with 53,308 entrants, and 7,003 cashes.

Another name worthy of mention is Calvin ‘cal42688’ Anderson who became the most successful SCOOP player of all time after securing his sixth victory, He moves one ahead of Shaun ‘shaundeeb’ Deeb who sits on five. Both titans have seven SCOOP titles.

Seven players won two SCOOP titles: ‘dragonwarrior’, Luke ‘lb6121’ Schwartz, ‘marek_heinz’, Nicolas ‘niccc’ Chouity, Woody ‘plplaya’ Deck, Victor ‘Puropoker123’ Lemos and Michael ‘SirWatts’ Watson.

Other notable victories came from: Fedor ‘CrownUpGuy’ Holz, Sorel ‘zangbezan24’ Mizzi, Mohsin ‘sms9231’ Charania, James ‘Andy McLEOD’ Obst, Christopher ‘NigDawg’ Brammer, Stefan ‘mindgamer’ Jedlicka, and Dzmitry ‘Colisea’ Urbanovich.

Kanit, Grigg & Apostolis20 Win the Main Events

The series ended with a three-tiered main event, and once again records were shattered.

Mustapha ‘Lasagnaaammm’ Kanit continued his rich vein of form with victory in the SCOOP High Main Event for $1.3m. He became the ninth millionaire on PokerStars in the past two months, and earned his second seven figure score of the year.

Kanit, who was also a member of the winning Italian team at the Global Poker Masters (GPM), and won the European Poker Tour (EPT) Super High Roller in Monte Carlo, defeated Emil ‘Maroonlime’ Patel in heads-up action. Patel had a fine series, winning SCOOP 29 H earlier in the series.

The High Main Event produced two more SCOOP records: 694 players entered the event, producing $6,940,000 in prize money. Kanit’s first prize is the sixth largest sum ever won on PokerStars, and he becomes the first player to win the SCOOP High Main Event and the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) Main Event, in the same season, after topping the field in the XXVIII Main Event earlier in the year.

The Medium Main Event went the way of Tom ‘tollgate’ Grigg earning $609,206.86. Apostolis20 won the Low Main Event for $203,176.89.

Life can be viewed as the sum of the parts or the parts themselves. I believe in the holistic view of life, or the sum. When dealing with individual parts you develop whack-a-mole syndrome; each time you clobber one problem with your hammer another one just pops up.
