Viktor Blom and Tom Dwan to Renew Rivalry

While FTOPS XXI has been generating a tremendous amount of excitement on the tournament tables at Full Tilt, this weekend promises cash game action that is sure to have railbirds at home glued to their computer screens.

Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, two of the site’s three “Professionals,” will face off in a heads-up competition on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 15:00 ET that is likely to rival the same head-to-head intensity between the pair in late 2009 that had many poker fans in awe. Three years ago, Dwan was an online superstar, but Blom’s true identity was not yet known. All that was known at the time was that “Isildur1” was playing aggressive and winning heads-up poker at Full Tilt for hours on end against top players at the highest stakes in No-Limit Hold’em and occasionally, Pot-Limit Omaha.

The two competed for some of the biggest pots seen in online poker, with millions of dollars tossed around. Blom eventually won more than $5 million at Full Tilt, the majority of that from Dwan, and was regarded by many to be one of the world’s best heads-up high stakes players. Yet his identity remained a mystery. Finally, at the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas, Blom revealed that he was the man behind the “Isildur1” moniker.

Now, three years later, the two will meet again, as Blom took to Twitter to announce, “the poker gods and @FullTiltPoker have answered my tweets. @TomDwan has accepted my challenge and wants to play this Sunday.” Each player will put up $100,000 spread across four No-Limit Hold’em tables with $50/$100 blinds under a winner-take-all format.

Although the money wagered is considerably less than was on the line in 2009, don’t consider this to be the last and final confrontation between the two superstars. To check out Sunday’s action, log in at Full Tilt at 15:00 ET and click on the “Find a Player” option under the “Requests” menu. Type in either Isildur1 or durrrr in the search field, and then click on the desired tables to be opened. And be ready for a wild ride!
