The US Department of Justice and Groupe Bernard Tapie have reached an agreement that allows for the repayment of players worldwide, and brings the Tapies one step closer to finalising their acquisition of Full Tilt.
A source close to the negotiations confirmed to PokerUpdate that "[GBT and the DOJ] have reached an agreement in principle."
Specific details are still being negotiated by Groupe Bernard Tapie and the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. It’s likely that GPT will make installments to the DOJ, who will repay players directly. However, this is yet to be confirmed, and no clear time frame for the repayment of balances has been established.
Jeff Ifrah, a lawyer associated with Full Tilt, said he has not seen any specific agreement, but heard one is almost signed; Groupe Bernard Tapie's lawyer, Behnam Dayanim, said that he "cannot comment just yet."
We will update this story as more details emerge later in the week.
