Independent operator Skybet has announced the launch of a new rakeback system for its online poker site.
The rakeback system will replace the current rewards structure and will debut on May 1, 2013. The Sky Poker Rewards will provide rakeback to players who earn more than 10,000 points on the online poker site. The rakeback tiers begin at 20% and reach a maximum level of 30% for qualified players. Low volume players will remain in the current structure, which allows them to receive 1 or 2 pence for each point earned on the site.
The Sky Poker Rewards system is a unique rewards structure that bypasses the need for an affiliate or third party facilitator. Given its strong advertising campaign on its own satellite television channel, the United Kingdom centered site is able to save on marketing costs and attract heavy volume players.
The new system also deviates from the general trend of VIP systems in other independent sites like Poker Stars and Full Tilt Poker. Although most poker sites offer rakeback through an affiliate, several operators are considering moving to a VIP points system employed by Poker Stars and Full Tilt.
Skybet hopes that this new system attracts regular grinders and maintains the strong pool of recreational players on the site.
