Rumours about Ronaldo joining PokerStars have been whispered around the Poker world for some time. Now, the rumour has become a reality: Luis Nazário de Lima, known as Ronaldo, has signed with PokerStars to become a member of Team SportStars.
This legendary forward won the World Cup twice with Brazil, bagged two ‘Golden Ball’ awards, and was declared the best player in the world three times by FIFA. Now, after a successful footballing career, Ronaldo is swapping the green pitch with the green felt and is trying his hand at the game he loves: poker.
“I always try to give my best in everything I do. I did it in football and in my life. Poker is a new challenge for me, you must know how to read the game and your opponents in order to find the best strategy to win” Ronaldo said. For PokerStars, the brand have hit top pair as the Brazilian encapsulates the core values of the brand: talent, dedication and passion; the make-up of successful athletes and poker pros alike.
Ronaldo has been playing poker recreationally for a few years, although he did make an appearance on a special athlete exclusive table; organised by Andre Akkari and Team PokerStars Pro. With Ronaldo joining forces with PokerStars, it is certain we will see him playing in many live events around the continent and as the face of the brands marketing drive alongside his star-studded teammates; which include the likes of Rafael Nadal and Boris Becker amongst other top athletes.
Ronaldo will start by playing LAPT Sao Paulo which is only days away from now. Will he be able to hit the back of the net and score big? Maybe, maybe not, though he is sure to be the big talking point regardless of how he performs.
