PokerStars Licensed for Online Poker in Bulgaria

PokerStars can now add Bulgaria to the list of countries in which it is licensed to offer online gambling, as the Bulgarian State Gambling Commission has given its rubber-stamped approval for the online poker king to launch.

Citing a commitment to enter newly-regulated markets in swift fashion, PokerStars is the first Internet poker operator to be granted a Bulgarian license. Next on the agenda of parent company Rational Group is taking a few weeks to adhere to technical requirements regarding starting up and servicing an anxious Bulgarian pool of online poker players.

“Bulgaria is full of promise,” PokerStars Head of Corporate Communications Eric Hollreiser told PokerUpdate. “Poker is extremely popular in the country. We are looking forward to work with the Gambling Commission so that we can launch as soon as possible.”

Already holding licenses in Estonia, Italy, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the Isle of Man and Malta, Rational Group proudly includes Bulgaria to the mix. PokerStars will undoubtedly make good use of its first-to-market advantage in Europe’s 14th largest country that boasts a population of over 7 million.
