With the World Series of Poker's 2012 season set to commence next week, PKR has launched a Fantasy Poker League through a Facebook app that will allow poker fans to create their own team of pro players to root for in 59 WSOP events.
Poker team managers are allowed to spend $100 million on an eight-player team selected from more than 180 professional poker players. As bigger-name stars will be more expensive to "purchase," each participating team manager must budget the player expenses for their individual teams, just as is done in fantasy baseball and football competition. Points will be awarded based on the positions finished by the members of each participant's pro poker team.
Fantasy sports leagues are extremely popular among fans,"but the poker world is lacking its own established WSOP equivalent," said PKR Community Manager Dan Grant in a press release.
Prizes include an iPad3 for the champion, as well as poker chips to runner-ups. PKR offers poker in 3D and is currently 24th in PokerScout's worldwide player traffic ranking.
