Online poker players who prefer the fun of play money tables at online poker sites rather than competing for real money are in for a treat later this month when PokerStars hosts The Elite Series, a play money online poker festival.

Consisting of 46 events over nine days from April 9-17, The Elite Series is being billed as “the biggest and best play money event ever created by PokerStars.” The series features an assortment of formats, poker variants, and buy-ins, guaranteed to pique the interest of play money poker players everywhere (and maybe some real money players too).

Entry fees range from 50,000 play money chips all the way up to 450,000,000 for The Elite Series Ultra-High Roller on April 17. That is not a typo, folks. You’ll need almost half a billion chips to enter that event, a buy-in that is sure to keep the play money riffraff on the rail.

Each day of the series has its own theme such as High Roller Saturday, Knockout Sunday, Round of Each Monday, Women’s Tuesday, Omaha Wednesday, Super Stack Thursday, Try a New Game Friday, Hourly Hyper Saturday and Main Event Sunday.

Hourly Hyper Saturday

Play money action will be fast and furious on Saturday, April 16 when 15 tournaments will be played, with a new event starting every hour. The Hourly Hyper tournaments each have a buy-in of 60,000 play money chips. PokerStars will add 10 million chips to the prize pool of all 15 events.

The action gets underway at 8:00 ET for the Hourly Hypers and doesn’t end until a winner emerges from the final event that starts at 22:00 ET. There is a special leaderboard race for the 15 Hourly Hyper events in addition to an Overall Leaderboard for the entire festival. Prizes will go to the top 10 finishers of each category.

Billionaire Club Events

Two events on The Elite Series schedule will be open only to PokerStars’ Billionaire Club members. That’s an exclusive club for players who have amassed at least one billion play money chips.

The Billionaire Club Hold’em Elite is set for April 9 and the Billionaire Club Omaha Elite on April 13. Both events will be played under a 6-max format and require a buy-in of 10,000,000 play money chips.

While the play money prize pools will likely be in another stratosphere for those two Billionaire Club events, there is an added perk that may prompt greater participation. Players from the final tables of both tournaments will be invited to a Billionaire Club Invitational set for April 17.

Not only will the 12 final tablists compete against each other at the Billionaire Club Invitational, they will also take on four Team PokerStars Pros who received invites. Poker Hall of Famer Barry “barryg1” Greenstein, poker boomer Chris “money800” Moneymaker, Andre “acoimbra” Coimbra, and Felix “xflixx” Schneiders will be seated among the play money billionaires.

“This will no doubt be the toughest two tables in play money poker history!” stated Michael Josem of the PokerStars Communications Team.

Players receive 1,000 play money chips upon registering with PokerStars and can replenish that amount three times per hour once their stack falls below 100. PokerStars also sells play money chips for as little as $1.99 for 350,000 all the way up to $99.99 for 75 million play money chips.
