Sportingbet is expected to announce a joint venture with Foxwoods Resort Casino to provide intrastate poker and casino games in Connecticut. Foxwoods, the largest resort casino in the world in terms of gaming space, is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe.
Sportingbet, which settled with the Department of Justice for $33 million in September 2010, has signed a letter of intent with Foxwoods and is currently in contract talks. According to eGaming Review, “the partners plan to launch a free-play poker site subject to regulatory approval and permissions from other gaming tribes in the state, ahead of exploring options for real-money poker and casino.”
According to sources close to the deal, Sportingbet beat out GTECH G2 and Betsson to win the contract.
Both Sportingbet and Foxwoods declined to comment when contacted by PokerUpdate.
