It has been announced on Poker-Red that licencing for Spanish online gaming operators could happen as soon as the first half of April.

Current issues however are the need to finalise the taxation of users. Sasch Michaud, President of the Spanish Association of Digital Gaming (JDigital) stated that “it is an open issue yet to be solved”

Other problems to sort out include the protection of its operators from the black market, indicated as a priority, and on international liquidity, with players from other countries being allowed to join Spanish sites currently being considered.

Enrique Alejo, Director General of Game Management, also pointed out that when the first application process is finished, another process may happen in 2012 after an assessment of the sector has been made.

Recently, PokerUpdate reported on Microgaming still accepting Spanish player traffic from skins who had applied for the gaming licence. It is believed that Pokerstars, PartyPoker and Ladbrokes are three names who have given in applications.
