New York may open commercial, non-Indian casinos like those in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“It’s a topic we are looking at actively,” Cuomo told reporters when questioned about commercial casinos. “Well, we have gaming in the state,” he said. “So now you have to go the second step: If there is going to be gaming how do you do it. That question is something we are presently looking at.”
According to reports, Cuomo indicated casinos, currently blocked by the state constitution, may require a lengthy constitutional amendment process before they can be opened in New York.
