News Bite: Subcommittee Hearing Scheduled

A subcommittee hearing on internet gambling is scheduled for next week ahead of further discussion of Joe Barton’s HR2366 bill to legalise online poker.

Rich Muny, VP of player relations for the Poker Players Alliance, told Two Plus Two: “[The hearing] will bring forward a variety of witnesses to discuss regulation of Internet gaming and gather information for a future hearing to examine the merits of Rep. Joe Barton’s Online Poker Act of 2011.”

The hearing will take place on Tuesday at 10:30am EST, and will be chaired by Republican Representative for California Mary Bono Mac.

In an interview with PokerNews, PPA executive director John Pappas indicated that D’Amato will speak on the segregation of player funds.

“Given the committee’s interest in player protections, I think it is appropriate that someone from the PPA testifies,” Pappas explained.

He added: “It will be a learning opportunity for the committee members to get their heads around an issue without confusing specific legislation. We think it will be good for building momentum.”
