Thirty-seven individuals, including members of the Gambino crime family and Sopranos actor John Marinacci, were arrested on charges relating to an underground loan sharking and gambling enterprise.
The early morning raids followed an extensive investigation—Operation Flat Rate—that utilised surveillance and wire tap technology. The Attorney General’s office secured five separate indictments from a Kings County, New York grand jury to place felony and misdemeanour charges on the thirty-seven individuals.
“These arrests cripple a network of criminal enterprises and the organized crime family they supported,” stated Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to the New York Daily News.
John Marinacci, who made appearances on HBO hit shows The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, was charged with enterprise corruption relating to the Gambino family’s bookmaking operations.
