If you’re an online poker player in New Jersey and had trouble making deposits via Visa and Mastercard prior to last Friday, the state’s poker sites welcome you to come on back and try again!
A new credit card code was launched in the Garden State on April 17 that will permit banks and financial institutions to readily see that your transaction is 100% legal. Of course, it had been legal since November, 2013, but major banks were not recognizing it as such.
In January, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement revealed that Visa credit card holders were successful in making deposits at a 73% clip. Players in New Jersey attempting deposits at igaming sites via Mastercard were even less successful – only 44%.
The reason? The Merchant Category Code of 7995 used to facilitate credit card transactions was recognized as belonging to online casinos – a no-no since the Bush administration passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in 2006. Laws passed in the regulated states of New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware make it legal in those jurisdictions, but banks continued to block transactions when confronted with the 7995 code.
As of last Friday, a new credit card code of 7801 has been put into play. That code is specific to New Jersey and should result in those dismal deposit success rates – 59% or so for Mastercard and Visa combined – to improve considerably.
It is believed that a good portion of New Jersey wannabe online gamblers who tried to deposit and were rebuffed said ‘the hell with it’ and quit trying. WSOP.com, 888poker, Borgata Poker and Partypoker are extending an invitation to those players to pull out that credit card and have at it!
Players who do will find terrific first-time deposit bonuses at the sites mentioned, a bankroll boost that goes a long way toward negating any possible losses suffered while competing against fellow New Jerseyans on the virtual felt. And for players who win at poker, the welcome bonus is like icing on the cake!
Take a look at the current Welcome Bonuses available:
WSOP.com – 100% bonus up to $400 on first deposit and $10 free with no deposit required
Borgata – 100% bonus up to $600 on first deposit and $20 free with no deposit required
Savvy players deposit at one site, clear the bonus, and move on to the next poker room and do it again. Those who do will receive $2,888 in bonus money, plus $85 in free cash that requires no deposit! Not to mention money won at the tables!
To reiterate, if you’re in New Jersey and couldn’t push a deposit through previously, it’s high time to try again. There are at least 2,888 reasons to do so!
