For the second month in a row, the online poker sites operating in Delaware collectively experienced a decrease in revenue when compared to poker rake and fees collected the previous month.
The month of June saw Harrington Raceway, Dover Downs and Delaware Park take in $30,675, a 21.8% decrease from $39,245 in May. In the first six months of 2015, three months have been gainers and three have shown declines, with June 2015 being the worst month of the year for online poker revenue except for January’s total of $27,695.
Year-Over-Year Shows Increase
When looking for positive results while analyzing Delaware’s online poker revenue totals, gains can be found in year-over-year figures. In June 2014, $25,607 was collected in ipoker revenue. The $30,675 that the trio of poker rooms raked in June this year is a 19.8% gain compared to a year ago.
Incidentally, that $25,607 in ipoker revenue in June 2014 was the lowest amount of any month since Delaware launched its online poker and gambling regime in November 2013. And the largest ipoker drop-off from one month to the next since launch occurred in May-June 2014 when revenue tumbled 55.4% from the $57,468 raked in May 2014.
Dover Downs Bucks Trend
The only poker room to gain from May to June this year was Dover Downs. However, the increase was a modest one – $6,872 in June over $6,212 the month before.
Delaware Park saw online poker revenue decrease from $29,267 in May to $20,169 last month. Harrington Raceway, which continues to lag behind the others in popularity among Delawareans, fell to $3,633 in ipoker revenue from $3,765.
iGaming Also Down
Online gambling in Delaware that includes casino games and the video lottery in addition to poker also declined in June 2015 from the previous month. The $108,692 collected in June was 18.7% less than May’s total of $133,697.
While ipoker showed positive numbers year-over-year, that didn’t hold true for igaming in June 2015 when compared to one year ago. Delaware’s gambling sites accrued $187,332 in June 2014 despite the lowest ever total for ipoker. This June’s tally of $108,692 in igaming revenue was a decrease of 42%.
Less Players Registered
New player sign-ups also took a bit of a dive, albeit only to 301 from the 318 in May. A bit more than half of those 301 players registered at Delaware Park (156), while 84 signed on at Dover Downs and 61 at Harrington.
All told, more than 11,000 gamblers have registered at the three Delaware online casinos since launch. There remains room for considerable growth despite The First State’s rather low population of under one million.
