The New Year didn’t bring anything new to the poker table for Gus Hansen and Viktor “Isildur1” Blom. Both players started 2014 just like they finished 2013: on the losing side of things.
Hansen isn’t willing to give up first place in the biggest online poker losers’ leaderboard and continues to leak money. According to HighStakesDB, the Dane lost $759,315 in the first 12 days of the year. He was very active on Full Tilt, playing 90 sessions and over 11k hands at the highest stakes. He had a great start, winning over $212k on January 3 thanks to a marathon head-to-head match-up against unknown “taktloss47” at the 2-7 Triple Draw tables. Hansen didn’t fare as well at Pot-Limit Omaha, however, losing -$611k.
Blom started 2014 with a strong poker appetite playing a wide range of games and experiencing major swings. The Swede knows that volume beats variance and he’s now officially on a grinding mission; “Isildur1” played 195 sessions and 19k hands in the first 12 days of the year. Nevertheless, he still lost big: -$640,042. It’s his third consecutive losing month, his longest since becoming a Full Tilt sponsored pro.
Third in the losers’ leaderboard is Patrik “FinddaGrind” Antonius. He made the mistake of playing Ben “Bttech86” Tollerene on his own turf, at the PLO tables, and paid for it. In the fourth spot sits PLO expert, Ola “no_Ola” Amundsgard. The New Year brought him a downswing losing -$244,334 in 4,246 hands at the game he loves most. On PokerStars though, where he plays under the feared nickname “Odd_Oddsen,” he won $85k.
The biggest 2014 winner so far is “Bttech” with $355,335 won in over 4k hands. The American had a big winning day on January 5, crushing Antonius at the $500/$1,000 CAP PLO tables and cashing his way through in the $200/$400 CAP PLO ring games. He was the biggest PLO winner of 2013 with over $2.33 million. Will he keep up the pace in 2014?
Three rather unusual names fill up the next spots in the winners’ leaderboard. Unknown “mikki696” is the second best online poker cash player in terms of winnings: he cashed in $349,015 after a red-hot two-day span. Both on January 8 and 9, “mikki696” was at the top of the leaderboard playing almost exclusively $200/$400 CAP PLO.
The third place is occupied by another unknown who plays under the nickname “2Ari Gold.” He won $279,186 between January 1 and 12, 2014 while playing 5,626 PLO hands. “Doorbread” is fourth with a $218,543 profit.
