Kara Scott is one of those people in the poker industry who has done nearly every job. She has been a poker television show host, personality, and commentator. She has written poker articles and columns, and she has played poker professionally and for fun.
This week, Scott and 888poker announced that she is the newest part of the 888poker team, taking on the role of poker ambassador. Considering her part in poker’s growth and her own passion for the game and the industry, there is perhaps no better suited role for her than ambassador.
Excitement for the Partnership
According to the press release, Scott will be promoting the recreational side of poker. In addition to taking poker seriously, many play the game for fun, and she wants to show that 888poker provides that great player experience for everyone interested in poker.
So, Poker Update asked her about the new role, and what it means to her, both personally and professionally.
Scott first explained her long relationship with 888 and how it feels to be a part of the team: “I actually did some TV work for them many years ago in England, and of course, they’re also the sponsor of the WSOP, so we were always bumping into each other. I remember the first year of the Battle of Malta; I was playing at a table with a bunch of 888 qualifiers, and they were telling me how great the company was treating them. Someone had a problem with their hotel room, and it was immediately fixed with an upgrade. Someone else wanted to do a tour of the island, and 888 was putting it together for them. The player host came over, checked on them, and said hi while we were playing. These weren’t their special VIP players, just regular qualifiers. I was really impressed, and it always stuck with me.”
She continued with the reason the role means so much to her: “I love the work that I do, and being with 888 lets me continue doing the things I love (working on TV, being at poker tournaments, promoting the game), but it lets me do it while being part of a team and becoming more involved with casual players. I’m really stoked that they think I bring value to the brand! For me, that’s one of the biggest things I need out of work. They’re putting a lot of faith in me, and I’m excited to see what we do this year!“
Role of an Ambassador
Scott is used to traveling, and that is a plus with her new responsibilities. She will be representing the 888poker team around the world, in person and online. She told Poker Update about some of the items on her new agenda as an 888poker ambassador.
“I’m going to be traveling to the 888Live events, among other things, and my first stop will be at 888Live London at the Aspers Casino next week, which feels REALLY fitting. Getting back to the UK poker scene after way too many years is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. Plus, I love working with the poker team at Aspers! I’ll be doing video updates while I’m there, both as a player and a tournament host, chatting with the players and qualifiers, and generally helping to make sure that everybody enjoys themselves.”
The online component will be a significant one as well. “I’ll be playing on 888poker as KaraScott888, so people can definitely find me there. I have a bounty tournament (the $3,000 Welcome Kara Scott Freeroll) set up for February 29 at 19:05 GMT, and there’s $100 for whoever knocks me out. I’m telling you right now, that should be the easiest $100 in the poker world to win! I’ll be getting home from LA the night before and will likely be incoherent with jet lag!“
But that’s not all for the new ambassador. Scott will be going Twitching: “Terrifyingly, I’ve also said that I’ll start a Twitch channel, so… yeah. Eek! If people want to watch someone melting down on camera, they should keep an eye out for that. The channel is KaraScott, and I can’t promise it’ll be educational, but it will hopefully be entertaining.“
That may seem like a lot for anyone, but Scott is used to multi-tasking. Living in Slovenia, traveling to Italian poker tournaments with husband Giovanni, flying to the United States for the WSOP, and handling tasks for all of the responsibilities she maintains, Scott is ready for whatever comes and excited for it.
Scott isn’t sure about the next live tournament after Aspers, but she is sure she’ll be heading to the 888Live Costa Brava in Catalonia, Spain. The May event is close to her wedding anniversary, so she and Giovanni will likely make it into a holiday before the start of the WSOP in late May. But in addition to the beach destination, there are others. “I love the small to mid-buy-in tournaments around Europe,” she said, “and they’ve always been a good way for me to travel and see new places.”
The team that 888poker put together was strong before Scott joined. Dominik Nitsche is one of the most well-known players on the team, and Sofia Lovgren is a skilled player. The team also includes Jackie Glazier, Bruno Kawauti, Nicolau Villa-Lobos, and Bruno Politano. And adding in players like Jessica Dawley and reigning WSOP world champion Joe McKeehen for the New Jersey contingent, 888poker is certainly in a position to market poker to a wide variety of players around the world.
Scott compliments and enhances the team, and she is undoubtedly excited about working with everyone at 888. Whether players and poker fans find her online or at an 888Live event or at the summer WSOP, they will see that the excitement is contagious.
