We’ve waited for it all summer long, and finally the debut has arrived. Poker Central, a new TV network devoted to providing poker programming 24/7, will officially launch on October 1.
The network’s inaugural programming has been announced and it features previously released episodes of favorites such as High Stakes Poker, Poker After Dark, 100 Greatest Poker Moments, Heads-Up Grand Slam, The Big Game, Doubles Poker Championship, Face The Ace, World Poker Tour Alpha 8, Women’s World Open and Premier League Poker.
Original TV Content On the Way
Poker fans at home who may be clamoring for original poker TV shows need not worry. The Super High Roller Bowl Cash Game that was filmed over the summer as part of the Super High Roller Series will air on December 2, 2015. Poker legends such as Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson and Phil Ivey are among the poker pros who sat down at the poker table with $250,000 in that high stakes cash game, and Poker Central will bring the action to you in the comfort of your living room.
“Poker Central is about to super serve the tens of millions of passionate and sophisticated poker fans in the United States and around the world,” said Poker Central CEO Clint Stinchcomb. “With thousands of hours of new, fresh content, Poker Central aims to entertain as well as it informs.”
Additional original programming includes shows such as “Pokerography,” which will delve into the early years of poker pros that include Chris Moneymaker, Vanessa Selbst and Mike Sexton and provide a biographical account of their lives. “Inside Poker” is another Poker Central creation, a show hosted by Matt Savage in which viewers will be treated to “hot topics within the poker world” and will also receive advice and poker tips from pro players. Both of those shows will air early next year.
How’s Your P-P-P-Poker Face?
Social media is now a huge part of our daily lives and Poker Central will use Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to engage fans via a Poker Face contest. No, the contest has nothing to do with Lady Gaga’s hit song of the same name that was played on the radio perhaps much too frequently back in 2008-09.
Poker Central’s Poker Face contest involves fans by asking them to upload their best poker face for the opportunity to win a trip to the Aria Casino and Resort in Las Vegas and receive private poker lessons from either Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Hellmuth or Daniel Negreanu. Those three poker pros previously signed on as partners with Poker Central and will impart their wisdom upon Poker Face contest winners.
Stinchcomb pointed out that poker has evolved considerably over the years, gaining popularity along the way. Poker Central will likely make the game even more popular.
“Television and Internet have made poker play global and universal, giving rise to a new set of stars outside of Hollywood and traditional sports,” he added. “We are excited that launch day has arrived and so has mainstream poker.”
