In this week’s celebrity poker watch we start with Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds.

After tying the knot with the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively, one would imagine that luck and Reynolds get along well, but according to recent press reports it’s not luck that makes him so fearsome at the poker table.

It’s because he’s crap.

Reynolds was speaking to reporters about his research into his latest movie: Mississippi Grind – a gambling movie that follows a pair of gamblers as they cut a route through the South on their way to a legendary poker game in New Orleans.

Both Reynolds and co-star Ben Mendelsohn journeyed deep into the heart of the South where they got involved in a series of poker games whilst researching their roles.

“I would say I am mediocre at best,” said Reynolds. “I noticed that they were more afraid of me. The idiot who shows up at the table and doesn’t know what he’s doing is the most dangerous.”

The movie has just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and by all accounts the early prognosis is a good one.

Boosted J Bluffs Manny Pacquiao

Bluffing is a great life leveler. The feeling of satisfaction that a young nerd must get after successfully bluffing the macho man at the table must feel as good as a pair of silk underpants.

But there are limits to how far you should push your edge, and Justin ‘Boosted J’ Smith recently pushed his about as far as he could.

Manny Pacquiao is a boxing legend. He is the only boxer in history to win world titles in eight different divisions, and he could take your head off with a flick of his wrist.

But none of that bothered Boosted J when the pair met on the dirty green baize. Posting on his Instagram page, Boosted J wrote:

I bet over $100k on the river, he thought for almost five minutes, and finally showed that he had folded top pair of aces. He started to beg me to show him my hand. I had one of the most nothing possible hands I’ve ever ended up having, but I had a read on him and decided to go with it.”

Boosted J did end up showing the bluff, but instead of a clip around the ear, the young cash game specialist got a toothy grin and a man hug. That was a right result for Boosted J because the Pac-Man is as unpredictable as they come. During the recent Miss Universe contest Pacquiao was asked to set a question for the lovely ladies, and asked them what they would do if they were given 30 seconds to deliver a message to a global terrorist?

Life can be viewed as the sum of the parts or the parts themselves. I believe in the holistic view of life, or the sum. When dealing with individual parts you develop whack-a-mole syndrome; each time you clobber one problem with your hammer another one just pops up.
