Australia’s Sportsbet, a subsidiary of Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, has launched a new mobile sportsbook with Sweden’s Mobenga. The mobile gaming specialist has developed mobile solutions supporting iPhone, iPad and Android devices for Sportsbet.
In July, Playtech announced the acquisition of Mobenga in a deal worth €8 million that may rise to €24 million by 2013. Mobenga provides mobile services to 14 of the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe’s largest and most reputable sportsbooks, including Paddy Power and StanJames.
Raymond Smit, Sportsbet’s mobile manager, told Gaming Intelligence:
“With smartphone penetration in the Australian market at 37% and growing, developing a mobile platform to suit this demand became our top priority. We were very impressed with the work Mobenga has provided to European betting companies and partnering with such a leading mobile development house was the obvious choice.”
Cormack Barry, Sportsbet’s Chief Executive, added: “We’ve already seen fantastic growth since going live with this new product, with more than a quarter of our customers now enjoying our mobile betting platform. We will continue to invest heavily in the mobile betting space as we strive to provide our customers with an unrivalled mobile betting experience.”
