A new era in social gaming has been ushered in by Facebook as the gaming giant released Bingo Friendzy, a real-money bingo app in the United Kingdom.
In a partnership with UK gaming company Gamesys, Facebook rolled out the first online gambling option emanating from a platform that began with free-play offerings.
"People love playing new types of games with their friends on Facebook and real-money gaming is a popular leisure activity in the UK," said Julien Codorniou, Facebook Europe's Head of EMEA Gaming Partnerships. "We're delighted to be working with Gamesys to enable them to offer their games on Facebook so that people can enjoy playing more games with their friends."
Additional real-money games will undoubtedly follow suit with a slot machine offering already in the works. Facebook has enjoyed a longtime partnership with Zynga, who has also announced plans to transition from free-play to real-money Internet gambling in early 2013. Online poker for real-money instead of virtual credits is also expected to make its way onto the format in due course through that behemoth in the realm of social gaming.
